If you are seeking for a free image editing program, IrfanView freeware may be exactly what you need. Historically, IrfanView was used solely for viewing images. It offers significant editing capabilities today. IrfanView provides great aid for image editing for both amateurs and experts.
IrfanView is specially built for rapid image loading and presentation. It supports viewing and saving of numerous file formats, such as image formats BMP, GIF, JPEG, JP2 & JPM (JPEG2000), PNG (includes the optimizer OptiPNG; APNG can be read), TIFF, raw photo formats from digital cameras, ECW (Enhanced Compressed Wavelet), EMF (Enhanced Windows Metafile), FSH (EA Sports format), ICO (Windows icon), PCX (Zsoft Paintbrush), PBM (Portable Bit)
Image editing consists of cropping, resizing, and rotating. Images can be modified by manually or automatically adjusting their brightness, contrast, tint, and gamma level, and by converting them between file types. Using batch processing, many of these modifications can be performed to several photos in a single step.
A plugin enables IrfanView to handle lossless JPG operations, including horizontal or vertical flipping, rotation in 90-degree increments, and cropping.
IrfanView allows users to examine and manipulate photos, as well as read and save a variety of video, graphic, and audio formats. The overall number of formats and extensions supported is 115 graphics file formats and 17 video/audio file formats.
However, certain file types require the use of plug-ins in order to be seen. This free graphical program is compatible with Windows Vista, XP, 2008, 2003, 2000, 9x, NT ME, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10. The application is also compatible with Winebottler for Mac OS X and Wine for Linux.
In addition to providing support for over 130 file extensions, the software offers multi-language support (a total of 22), Adobe Photoshop Filters support for an incredibly popular slide show, the ability to save SCR / EXE files, the capacity to burn files to CDs and DVDs, and the ability to draw shapes on-screen.
A complete installation of IrfanView, with all of its features and plug-ins, requires far less storage space (10 MB) than the vast majority of competing image viewers. The software is quite simple to install. Simply navigate to a mirrored site, download the executable file, then double-click the file to install.
IrfanView provides numerous picture editing tools. It is also capable of directing images to be opened in external image editors such as Photoshop. When you open an image, you will notice a status bar that displays the initial size in pixels as well as the bits per pixel. The program provides a wealth of additional data, including zoom, image number in the folder, file date/time, etc. Feel free to modify the image as you see fit.
Editing is made simple by the program's clean and intuitive interface. Simply click on the toolbars and menu to gain access to the editing options. You may flip, rotate, add watermarks, adjust the filters, adjust the brightness, adjust the color depth, change the size of the canvas, and build bespoke photo frames.
It lacks the superior painting capabilities of GIMP and Adobe Photoshop. Nonetheless, this is a lightweight player and viewer with a different function. It is quick, simple to use, and compatible with most graphic file formats. It is little, with a size of less than 2 MB at the moment I am writing this review.
Additionally, plug-ins and other skins can be downloaded from the official website (see download links up). When using IrfanView, the only limitation is your imagination. Did you know, for instance, that you can make screensavers and slide shows? (all you need is IrfanView, installation, and instruction on how to use it, along with a modest collection of photographs)
After creating a screensaver or slideshow, the nicest feature is that you may run them as standalone executables on Microsoft Windows systems that do not have this program installed. This certainly speaks much about this free picture viewer.
Many of these images may need to be shown to others, either individually or in a slideshow, for example holiday or family day shots. Some will require editing before they can be used, such as changing their colors, adding effects, adjusting their size, cropping, or combining. There are numerous ways to make unique uses of a single image.
IrfanView provides all of these capabilities in a single, lightweight application. It has a clean and simple user interface so that it is not intimidating for novices, but behind that is a highly strong and helpful application that may not have all the functionality of a high-profile, professional picture editing tool, but which meets many of our requirements.
Easy to apply filters and effects: It is surprisingly simple to obtain stunning results in a short amount of time. You can simply manipulate image colors and add a broad variety of filters and effects with only a few menu selections and mouse clicks.
One of the reasons we take photographs is to share them with others via a slideshow. IrfanView makes it simple to merge many photos into an executable slideshow that can run independently of the application. This means a slideshow can be readily shared with others, who can see it independently.
Watermarking: You may wish to apply a watermark to an image to identify it as yours to prevent others from using it without your permission, or to theme photographs as belonging to a specific set. Including a watermark is simple. Simply create the watermark, and it will be put repeatedly to any image you select with just a few clicks.
Numerous file formats are supported, including well over a hundred graphic file formats and numerous video formats. It is simple to convert between formats, and you can convert files individually or in bulk.
There are other ways to produce new photos, including dividing an image into tiles with custom dimensions and merging images to make panoramas. You may write and draw on photos using a simple collection of paint tools consisting of numerous brush, line, shape, and fill tools, allowing them to be customized or tailored to a particular purpose.
IrfanView will acquire images directly from your scanner, eliminating the need for a separate scanning application before dealing with an image.
When IrfanView does not provide the desired functionality, you can open the image you are currently viewing in another image editor from within IrfanView. If you find that the available options limit your creativity, you can easily switch to an alternative without losing time.
Plugins: New features can be added relatively easily due to plugin support. There are a large number of available plugins, which enable people who require them to add quite specialized functionality without making everything available to everyone — which would make the application feel bloated.
The user interface's simplicity and relatively dated appearance might be viewed as either beneficial or negative. It is relatively simple for newbies to become productive rapidly, and IrfanView does not have any visually distracting elements. On the other hand, some will consider the style to be somewhat outdated.
IrfanView is an outstanding graphics viewer and editor. It supports a vast array of file formats, loads a variety of additional plug-ins, and has a well-organized layout. IrfanView's numerous advantages outweigh its few disadvantages.
I suppose my words will fall short of describing this program's true significance. Many thanks to Irfan Skiljan for developing such a valuable graphics program. IrfanView is my preferred Windows graphics viewer application. The first time I used this treasure was in 2001, and the program's development spans over two decades (25 YEARS!). If you appreciate the author's dedication, please spread the news or, if feasible, give.
