Logitech G533 Gaming Review: A Better-Sounding Wireless Gaming Headset. The Logitech G533 Gaming headset boasts DTS HeadphoneX, and good battery life. To test the headset's performance during gaming, we tested it for over 40 hours.

We like this

  • Surround sound that is realistic

  • Many customization options

  • Battery life is excellent

  • Sturdy and attractive

The Things We Hate
  • More for consoles than PCs

  • No 3.5mm audio port

  • Bulky design

  • Keep your ears closed

  • Glasses are not for you

Logitech G533 has a long battery life and many customization options. However, its bulky design, stiff earpads, and uncomfortable fit can make it difficult to use for extended gaming sessions.

Logitech peripherals are high quality and affordable. Logitech's G930 headset is now the basis for the G533 Wireless Gaming Headset.

The G533 was designed for gamers and features DTS HeadphoneX virtual 7.1 surround sound as well as Pro-G audio drivers. The headset has a battery life of 15 hours and wireless ranges up to 50 feet. The G533 was tested for one week. I played PC and console games, listened to music and used the headset during work meetings.

Design: No flash necessary

It doesn't have the most slim profile, however. As the peripheral is almost 8 in high and 7.5 in wide, it's quite bulky. The rounded rectangular ear cups are fairly large too—measuring around four inches tall and about three inches wide, they're large enough to completely cover the ears and create a suction effect that helps reduce background noise.

It is entirely black with very little branding. The headset has an outside 'G' logo on each glossy-surfaced earcup. The earcups have a glossy exterior, while the rest of the headset has a matte black finish. Its design is simple and professional, with no flash.

You can access volume controls using your left hand, even if you are not using your right hand to control the mouse.

Comfort: Debattable

G533 features thick earpads and thick padding around the headband. Ear pads are made of a hard foam and covered with a mesh fabric (not vinyl). You can adjust the headband to fit your ears. The ear cups pivot so you have the best fitting. The G533's comfort level is however questionable.

You can access volume controls using your left hand, even if you are not using your right hand to control the mouse.

It felt good when I put it on for the first time. After wearing it for several hours, the headset started feeling uncomfortable under my ears, especially in my neck and jaw area. It also made me feel like it was pressing in on my glasses. It was so uncomfortable that I gave it away to three others. They all complained the same.

It is quite stiff so I tried to loosen it up a little. For cleaning purposes, the earcup covers and fabric padding can be removed. I took off the ear cuffs to try and loosen them. The headset was more comfortable for longer periods of time after these small adjustments.

High Quality Sound:

Although the G533 has a great sound, you may need to adjust the settings to achieve the perfect sound. The G533 is great even when it's not in its box. DTS HeadphoneX:X provides 7.1 surround sound with Pro-G drivers for optimal sound quality and minimization of distortion. You can hear gunfire and background sounds like thunder roaring and helicopters flying. These headphones can be used to determine distance and hear which sound is coming from.

Stereo sound can be used instead of surround. GHub allows you to make many adjustments (more details later). With a frequency range of 20 Hz-20KHz and a sensitivity rating of 101 dB, the headphones can be loud enough without using too much power.

If you turn the microphone up, the noise-cancelling microphone will automatically mutes. However, the indicator light for red mute is difficult to spot because it is located right on the mic. To see the indicator light, I leaned the headset towards my left ear and checked that it was muted. The fact that the G533 didn't have an indicator light was something I did not like.

The 4mm Pressure Gradient Electron Condenser Microphone allows you to communicate clearly with the person at the other end. It has a frequency response between 100Hz-20KHz so is not sensitive to low frequencies like air conditioners or other background noises. However, your voice sounds clear and crisp. The'sidetone' can be set and you can adjust the volume of your voice while listening.

Customize with GHub Software

Wirelessly, the G533 connects with your computer using a USB wireless adapter. Although it doesn't include a 3.5mm audio connector, the connection to your computer is very good. The range is 15m (almost 50ft), which means you can easily walk all around the house or go to the kitchen for a quick snack. It can last for about 15 hours. That's pretty good.

Logitech's GHub software allows you to customize your G533. Adjust the equalizer, surround sound and microphone settings. These adjustments can be made per game or for the entire headset. You can make the G533's physical mute buttons on its side. However, you can modify that button in GHub to change it to a play/pause or macro button. It is useful, considering that you already have the ability to mute your headset by turning the microphone into the up position. Having two options is quite redundant.

You can adjust the physical mutes on your G533 by using GHub.

On Sale:

You can buy the Logitech G533 for 150 dollars, or you could find it for half that. It's an excellent value if you get it on sale.

Logitech vs SteelSeries Arctis7

SteelSeries Arctis 7 also sells at $150 and has a wireless connection of 2.4G. It also comes with surround sound DTS headphones:X v2.0. The Arctic 7's 24-hour battery lasts longer than the G533’s 15-hour battery, but the G533 is shorter (15 meters for G533 and 12 for Arctic 7), Additionally, the Arctic 7 has a bidirectional microphone rather than a single-directional one like G533.

Although the G533 is a great sounding device, its comfort may need some adjustments in order to be comfortable for extended periods of time.
