The Hisense U8G TV was loved by us. It had great picture quality, a large range of features and was very economical. It is now the Hisense U8H, which has more colors and higher contrast. You don't have to upgrade the U8G, as it is virtually identical to the U8G. The U8H may be a better option if you're looking for an affordable TV.
Hisense suggests a retail price for the 65-inch U8H at $1399.99 and an "everyday price" of $999.99. It was tested to ensure that it is available for sale. Amazon is selling the TV at a much higher price than its suggested retail price. However, it could drop to the "everyday" price as more units become available from retailers. Our Editor's Choice Award goes to the U8H for its excellent value.
Editor's note: The 65U8H is the 65 inch version. Similar features are found in the 55-inch 55U8H model, priced at $1149.99 (suggested Retail Price) and $699.99 ("Everyday"), both of which cost $1149.99. The same performance is expected.
The U8H's top and sides are covered by a thin metallic band. This is the more popular and wider bottom bezel. It is identical to the Hisense U6H TVs and Vizio M50QXMK01 TVs.
The chrome Hisense logo is located in the middle of the bezel. To house the infrared sensor, there is a trapezoidal protrusion. The top houses a power button as well as the Google Assistant indicator lights. The TV is supported by two long, thin legs that are longer than the rest and can be mounted on the wall using standard VESA holes.
The power cable can be plugged in to the port on the right side of the panel's back panel. All other connections are located on the left. Four HDMI ports are available, including one each for eARC, 4K120 and 2K120. There is also a USB port. The antenna/cable connector is facing left, while the optical audio output, Ethernet and second USB A ports are facing back.
The U6H remote is identical to yours. It is made of black plastic with a round navigation pad on the tip. It contains settings, power, input and Google Assistant buttons. A combination pinhole microphone/indicator LED is available. There are also buttons below the pad for Live TV, Home and Back. You will also find a pinhole microphone/indicator led, volume controls, and channel rockers. You will find buttons below that give you instant access to Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Netflix as well as Peacock, Peacock and Tubi.
Hisense uses the Google TV smart TV platform U8H. You can access many features and apps. All major streaming services such as Amazon Prime Video or Apple TV+ can be accessed. Google Cast allows you to stream content from your Android smartphone or Chrome web browser. The October update to Hisense U6H will include the same Apple AirPlay connectivity options.
Google TV allows you to access Google Assistant. You can also use the U8H's far-field microphones to operate it hands-free. All you need to say is "Hey Google" in order to summon Google Assistant. This works just as well with smart displays. Google Assistant is able to control and search content on your smart-home device or TV. You can also search for general information like weather conditions and scores.
The 120Hz refresh rate of the Hisense U8H LED-backlit LCD TV 4K is provided by Hisense. HDR10+, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision content are supported by the U8H. The U8H also supports hybrid loggamma content (HLG). It also supports ATSC 3.0 tuner.
The tests of televisions were conducted using the Klein K-80 colourimeter (Opens a new window), Murideo SIX-G sign generation (Opens a new window) as well as Portrait Displays' Calman program (Opens at another window). In Theater Day mode with an SDR signal, the U8H has a peak brightness of 711 nits and 1,410 at an 18% field. With the same mode, it also displays an HDR signal. The TV has an 842 nits peak brightness and a large screen field. The 1,982 nits are 18%.
The black levels of both cases are 0.01cd/m2, which results in a contrast ratio of 198.226 to 1. This is better than the U8G's performance of 88.168:1. The U8H cannot match the Samsung QN90B. Although the U8H is similar in peak brightness (1.3700 nits HDR signal, 18% white fields) it has OLED-challenging contrast. It also boasts perfect black levels thanks to its miniatureLED backlight.
The U8H also has an array backlight that appears to turn off all lights in black areas. It does show some light bloom, but the QN90B has very little to no. Although LED TVs cannot compete at black level with OLEDs due to light blossom, OLEDs can display a brighter screen. LG C2, the Editors Choice winner OLED TV is an example. The TV has a peak brightness of just 560nits, and an HDR signal that includes 18% white areas.
Our U8H had the best contrast, with Theater Day setting having the lowest. However, we like the Filmmaker mode for watching movies. The HDR signal has an 18% white field and a lower peak brightness of 1,877 nits. It preserves shadow detail and highlights better. Theater Day displays less exact colors but retains the same black levels.
The above charts show the U8H filmmaker mode, which uses an SDR signal in comparison to Rec.709 broadcast standards. An HDR signal is used against DCI.P3 digital Cinema standard. SDR colors are more balanced than HDR colors, but not as intense. However, this won't impact the viewing experience.
HDR colors are amazing, and they surpass the DCI-3 colour space. Magentas shift slightly more green and cyans shift more red. The colors are not skewed, so they look great straight from their boxes.
With BBC's Planet Earth II, the U8H is a great choice. It is evident that bright and vivid colors are used. Television shows plants and water in natural, well-saturated colors. In direct or indirect sunlight, you can view fine details like fur and bark.
In the overcast scene that opens Deadpool's movie, Deadpool's bright red costume looks balanced and vibrant. The costume doesn't appear faded or purplish. The bright and vibrant yellows and oranges reflected in lab's burning battlefield of battle are well balanced and have contrasts with darker shadows.
The Great Gatsby's party scenes show how dark jackets can be seen without appearing washed-out. White balloons and white shirts are brighter than black suits or dark hair. You can adjust the backlight and black level using Filmmaker on your TV. The picture still looks bright.
If you view the TV from an unfavorable angle, it will cause some color fades but nothing major. If entertaining large groups, everyone should be able to see the TV from their positions. The U8H is not as color-retentive as TVs like the LG C2, but it's still far cheaper than budget models.
Gamers with AMD-based machines will love the U8H. This panel features a 120Hz resolution, variable refresh rate (VRR), as well as AMD FreeSync Premium.
The interface is intuitive and responsive. The input lag for game mode was measured using the HDFury Diva HDMI Mat (Opens in a New Window). It is well below the 10ms threshold that we use to determine if a TV has a good gaming experience. It is normal because when Game mode is turned off, the input lag jumps up to 86.5ms.
Hisense U8H TV offers excellent value and is a good replacement for the U8G. It offers excellent contrast and accurate colors. The U8H also features strong gaming capabilities.
This TV is an excellent value at $1,399.99. It also offers a fantastic value at $999.99 for its "everyday" price of $6499.99 for the 65-inch model. It is Editor's Choice for midrange TVs. This TV ranks alongside the TCL 6-Series 4K Google TV ($1,299.99), for 65-inch models, as our most value option. The TCL TV is less bright because it lacks Apple AirPlay and AMD FreeSync.
Hisense U6H is available at $549.99, for the 65-inch variant. It offers greater savings, and also features Google TV. It's not as bright and vibrant as the Samsung QN90B but it is equally responsive. Our top-rated OLED TV is the LG C2 (66.5-inches, $2,499.99), The C2 has incredible picture quality. The Samsung QN90B (65-inch, $2,599.99), exceeds all expectations in terms brightness and contrast.
