You might like to listen to music while you work out. If so, plugging in wired headphones can be a good idea. If that seems too restrictive and bothersome, you might consider the AUKEY Wireless Headphones. They are a cheap wireless option.

Over the course of a week, we wore a pair AUKEY Wireless Headphones. We were able to observe how well they performed in terms comfort, sound quality and battery life.

Installation Process: It's as easy as it gets

Sometimes the simplest things are the best. A simple and quick setup can reveal a lot about your product. We were able to pair the AUKEY Wireless Headphones with our phone right after we switched them on. There was no need to install an app or follow additional steps. The process was as easy as turning the devices on, charging the micro-USB cable, then connecting them.

Design: Durable and functional

The AUKEY Wireless Headphones look nothing special. The AUKEY Wireless Headphones are available in one color, all black. They're made of the same materials as any accessory: rubber and plastic.

While they're not particularly flashy, there is one distinctive feature to these headphones—each earbud includes a magnet, which makes wearing and storing them neat and tidy. The headphones come with a pouch that can be used to keep them in place when not being used.

These headphones weigh only 0.46 oz, despite their magnetization. These headphones measure 25.67 inches from one earbud to the next. They are not wired, which can cause tangling and excess cord. Instead they have enough length to allow for easy movement during activity. This length proved to be a bit too long for workouts, as it was difficult to adjust the volume and track tracks.

It's simple: a rectangle with plus- and minus symbols used to adjust volume, advance or reverse audio tracks. It can be used for audio playback, phone calls and pairing the device with a smartphone. They aren’t particularly responsive and require firm pushing, especially for turning on or off, moving through playlists, or moving back and forth. This can be annoying when you are running in continuous motion.

Comfort: You should stay in your place but not get too comfortable

These AUKEY Wireless headphones feel light and comfortable. For a better fit, the ear hooks are located behind each bud's ear tips. They should be inserted into the ear to provide a secure and snug fit. The sizing information on all alternate ear hooks is clearly marked, such as 'LL' to indicate left large or 'RM for right medium. Although the tips don't have markings, they are easy to spot the differences in size.

We never found a good fit despite having three different sets of in-ear hooks and tips. The buds felt like they were floating inside the ear canal. Even the tiny tips and hooks seemed oddly-sized. It was almost like the left earbud would pop out every time we attempted to change tracks during runs. It was important to not apply any pressure when changing tracks during runs.

They were able to hold their shape and not slip during a few short runs of two- to four miles in middle of the summer. However, we felt that wearing them while exercising was less fun than when walking and commuting.

While most headphones can become uncomfortable over time, they are usually easy to take off after a short period of wear.

Sound Quality : Tinny, lacking bass

These headphones feature an AUKEY EQ switch function that allows users to select between vocal, bass and treble modes. The manufacturer also boasts CD-quality audio, thanks to aptX compression technology in these headphones—this standard basically serves to compress audio over Bluetooth for better sound quality.

The EQ function was not very intuitive. We were unable to notice any significant differences when we switched from bass mode. The biggest problem we found with the audio quality was the tinniness of every type of music. The sound quality was consistent across all genres, including hip-hop, folk, rock and R&B. It was particularly hard to hear bass tones. Sometimes songs with a strong bass accent sounded very harsh.

We were most disappointed with how muffled every type of music was.

These headphones were also very easy to use for listening to podcasts. The headphones actually made voices sound better. It was not as harsh or dull as we heard when listening to different music.

AUKEY claims that the headphones can be used to reduce noise. This was not the case when we walked on busy streets or rode on trains and buses. It was almost impossible to hear background noises or traffic noises when we were walking on busy streets.

We could be having issues with fit, as we couldn't get the tip to fit perfectly. We are skeptical this will make any significant difference in blocking outside noises.

Battery life: All day

We liked the long-lasting battery life of these headphones. These headphones are said to last for eight hours by AUKEY. We were able to test the headphones using streaming audio and podcasts. The battery's eight hour time limit was not exceeded. The charging time took just 1.5 hours which was exactly what the manufacturer claims.

These headphones are a huge benefit due to the powerful, quick-charging battery. These headphones can be used for up to a week of gym trips or daily commutes.

Range and Capability : Consistent and Generous

The operating range claim was right on the nose, we found. The 33-foot limit was tested and static was only noticed when you started moving beyond that range. The sound did not stop completely even after that test. It was easy to move from room to room without needing to take the phone.

Prices: High-quality but expensive, however, there is stiff competition

Wireless headphones are available in a range of prices from $25 to $50, and AUKEY certainly is not the only one offering this price.

These AUKEY Wireless headphones are competitively priced at $29.99 MSRP. This is primarily due to the magnetic clip and long battery life. Other models offer more features, such as waterproof capabilities and greater battery capacities. These AUKEY Wireless Headphones don't come cheap for the quality they provide, but you can find other models in the same price bracket that offer more power and ruggedness.

AUKEY Wireless headphones vs. Anker soundBuds slim

The Anker SoundBuds Slim Wireless Workout Headphones, which retail for $25.99, have almost everything the AUKEY Wireless Headphones offer—including the magnetic earbuds for easy wear.

The Anker SoundBuds Slim costs a little less and can charge for up to 1.5 hours, or even 10 hours with a single charge. The Anker SoundBuds Slim are also IPX7-rated, and they come in several color options other than basic black. They also include a small travel bag with a carabiner. Although these are minor details, they can make a difference when weighing the different products. EQ-mode flexibility is what these Anker headphones do not have. Although we did not find it to be an important feature, some might still appreciate this option.
